Flea and Tick Prevention
Want to keep your dog flea and tick free this summer? No problem! There are plenty of ways to keep those pests away. Let Little Dog help you to prevent your dog from getting fleas and ticks this summer by following these tips:
1. Utilize Prevention Products
There are numerous products on the market that help to prevent fleas and ticks on dogs. Some of these brands include Frontline Plus, Nex Guard, and K9 Advantix. Many of these products are affordable and are able to be purchased right over the counter!
2. Keep Grass Short
Ticks are attracted to high grasses, shrubs, weeds, and warm, shady areas. Mow your lawn often, and keep the grass in the yard short. This will help to keep ticks away from the yard where dogs love to play and roll around.
3. Tick Checks
It is important to check your dog for fleas and ticks frequently! Be sure to inspect your dog in the following areas: belly, armpits, tail, paws, ears, and skin. Check your dog shortly after being outside. Ticks are known for spreading Lyme disease, and inspecting your dog often throughout the summer will help prevent this disease.
4. Groom Often
Keeping your dog groomed is a great way to guard against fleas and ticks. Fleas and ticks often hide in longer hair, so keeping your dog’s hair short will help make these pests more noticeable and help keep them away.
